In the corporate world (where I have so very recently been told that am just a fledgling) , we often dream of a magical rose garden over the horizon – the next promotion, the next big project, the next achievement.
But are we forgetting to appreciate the roses blooming outside our windows today?
Let’s reflect on this through a story.
In a small town, lived a young girl named Meena. She dreamed of a magical rose garden over the horizon, a place filled with enchanting beauty and joy. Meanwhile, a single rose bush bloomed outside her window, which she hardly noticed.
One day, an elderly woman named Saraswati moved next door. She noticed Meena always gazing out of her window and asked her about it. Meena shared her dream of the magical rose garden. Saraswati asked, “What about the roses blooming outside your window today?”
Meena was taken aback. She had been so consumed with her dream that she had failed to appreciate the rose bush blooming right outside her window. From that day, Meena started appreciating the beauty of the present moment.
This story serves as a metaphor for our lives in the corporate world. The magical rose garden represents our dreams and aspirations. The rose bush represents the present moment and the opportunities it brings.
In the corporate world, especially in India, it’s easy to lose sight of the present moment. But as Meena’s story teaches us, the magic we seek in the future may already be present in our lives. We just need to take a moment to appreciate it.
So, let’s not forget to enjoy the roses blooming outside our windows today, even as we strive for the magical rose garden over the horizon.
Because the journey to success is not just about the destination, but also about appreciating the beauty along the way.
