What we eat in, is a dilemma too !

Presently, my life can best be described as that of one in a perennial state of flux. Compulsion demands that I call in for meals on almost regular basis. One perpetual worry stems from not only the hygiene associated with the pre-cooking and cooking processes but also the packaging used to finally get the order to my table.

To quantify these thoughts I came across this piece in today’s HT which is so very pertinent to this perplexing issue at hand: –

What we eat and what we eat in: Need for law on food containers

Bharati Chaturvedi’s well researched yet succinctly articulated article tagged above, suggests the urgent requirement for standards and public testing for food containers coupled with perceptible shifts in consumer behaviour , attitudes and innovation.

To quote from her article –

A new study, ‘Occurrence, potential release and health risks of heavy metals in popular take-out food containers from China’, by researchers Yu Han, Jiali Cheng, Di An, Ying He, Zhenwu Tang, published recently in Environmental Research, is worrying.

According to the researchers “the summed carcinogenic risks of Cadmium, Lead, Nickel and Cobalt were unacceptable under specific exposure frequency, although the total non-carcinogenic risks from metal intake were low”.

As the options for calling in one’s choice of food get enhanced day-on-day and the logistics behind food delivery get more fine-tuned towards optimising customer delight, this critical aspect of not only what we eat but what we eat in can only attract more effective solutions from all stakeholders.
